MCC meets Facebook

Hey all you Facebooker’s, Mohave Community College has a new page on Facebook called MCC Admissions. Spring Registration 2011

It’s that time of the year again to register for Spring 2011 semester. If you are a returning student, you can register online beginning today, November 8. Registration for all students on campus begins on the 15th of November as well.

The college will be closed to students December 10, 2010 to January 2, 2011 for winter break.

Get in early to get the classes you want.

Escape to Your Study Zone

If you find yourself trying to escape a land of books but still need to study for an exam take a look outside. Currently, the temperature is stable at ninety-seven degrees with a slight breeze to keep everyone cool. Today the high is at a hundred and the low at sixty-nine, but if you find shade and grass this is not an issue at all. Several green areas around our campus make life easier with a peaceful place to learn and study for exams. So take a look out your window and escape to a serene world of your own.

Duel Enrollment Orientation at the High School

We, at Mohave Community College and Kingman High School, are gearing up for the upcoming semester for the new school year starting in Fall 2010.

In preparation, there will be a Duel Enrollment Orientation:

Student Appreciation Week

This week is Student Appreciation Week. Brought to you by your Neal Campus Kingman Student Government Association, Alpha Chi Omega (PTK), Fine and Applied Arts Club, The Foundation, and McKee Foods.

Compass Testing at Kingman High School

Compass testing is the first step in registering for dual enrollment classes.
Today, April 6th, I'm Compass testing at Kingman High School. The week of April 12-15, I'll be Compass testing at Kingman High School again. Besides overseeing Compass testing on these dates, I'll be able to help any student complete the dual enrollment registration and answer any questions about the process. Parents are encouraged to attend registration with their student or may contact me for appointments, Kay Lynn Trybus, at my MCC number, 928-692-3021.


Dual enrollment classes are held on the Kingman High School campus during the school day. Classes are taught by college qualified high school teachers using college curriculum. When students are enrolled in a dual enrollment course, they receive credit toward high school graduation while earning college credit. Qualified high school students may enroll in dual enrollment classes. There is no fee to participate in Dual-E classes.

On your mark.... Get set.... FAFSA!!!!

It's the perfect time to get a jump start on your FAFSA for the 2010/2011 school year. As soon as you do your taxes you can fill out your FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education provides students and parents with financial aid program information. It's FREE to sign up. Log onto http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to file for your FAFSA. To get great information and filing help you can log onto http://www.fsa.ed.gov.

MCC Title IV Code is 011864. You'll need it to get aid for this school. If you need assistance please visit the Financial Aid Office at your nearest campus. You may also apply for scholarships as well as financial aid by visiting the Financial Aid office in the student services buildings at the Bullhead City campus, Lake Havasu City campus, North Mohave campus, or the J. Leonard and Grace Neal Campus - Kingman.

Getting on to MyCampus portal

Technology is great. Just at work and school alone, it helps me have an easier day. Email, Angel, MyCampus portal, and EX web are essential to have a productive day. Here is some information to help you out with getting better acquainted with your Email, Angel, and MyCampus portal:

Your Main User Name:

Last Name + First Initial + Middle Initial + Last 4 digits of your Student ID

For example, student "John R. Williams" with a Student ID of "123456" would have the following Username: WILLIAMSJR3456. NOTE: If your last name is longer than 10 characters, it will be truncated to 10 characters in the Username.

Student email addresses are formatted as follows: username@mccmail.mohave.edu (e.g., the student in the example above would use williamsjr3456@mccmail.mohave.edu for his email address).

Passwords: Your default password will reflect the following format: mCC090265, where m is not capitalized, CC is capitalized, 09 is the most recent year of enrollment at the college, 02 is your birth month in 2-digit format, and 65 is your birth year in 2-digit format. You will need to change your password when you first log into each system, to a unique password of your choosing.

If you need help changing your password, contact the Help Desk at 866-749-8239 for assistance.

MyCampus portal
To access MyCampus, go to http://mycampus.mohave.edu and log in using the Username and Password as described above.
Once you find your Username and Password (as described above) you can log into the MyCampus portal for single sign-on access to email, ANGEL, EX Web, student forms, MCC library, and other useful online resources.


Angel
Students should not try to access their online courses until the first day of class. Access will not be available until that time.

Spring 2010 online courses begin as follows:

•January 25: full-semester and first session courses
•February 10: 12-week courses
•March 24: 2nd-session courses

On the first day of class, you can access your online course(s) in the MyCampus portal (http://mycampus.mohave.edu) or you can go directly to Angel (https://angel.mohave.edu/frames.aspx) in your Web browser. You will log in with the Username and Password as described at the top of this page. After login, the first page that displays will have a link to your online course(s). Simply click the link for the course you wish to access, and you will be taken to that course site.

MCC Mail
MCC student email addresses will be the only email addresses used for online classes. You can access your MCC student email account in the MyCampus portal, or you can go directly to the email Web interface at http://start.mccmail.mohave.edu in your Web browser. Use the Username and Password as described at the top of this page.

Attention High School Seniors!!!

Have we got a program for you! Let me tell you about the Early Start Program.

The Early Start Program is a scholarship program for Mohave County high school senior students, home schooled students, and Mohave Community College GED graduates who would like to earn college credits tuition free!

The Scholarship covers the cost of tuition for seven credit hours (about two courses). The courses can be taken this summer after completion of your junior year or in the Fall and Spring of your senior year.

Gearing Up for Classes at the Bookstore

Spring Classes Begin January 25. I'm picking up my books this week at the campus bookstore. I can even order my books online at http://www.whywaitforbooks.com/ and then pick them up at the campus bookstore. It's simple, quick and easy.

All you need is your class schedule. You will need to know the Term (e.g. Spring 2010), department code (ENG), course number (102), and section number (851).

The MCC Bookstores also offer other schools supplies, such as pens, MCC cloths, book bags, snacks, coffee, gift cards and so much more.

Stores located on the campuses in Kingman, Bullhead City, and Lake Havasu City are open:

Mon - Thurs 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
Friday 8:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

Thanks for Pumpkin Fest

A big "THANKS" goes out to all who helped pull together this years Pumpkin Fest. A special thanks goes out to Praxair Inc. and the Foundation for the donations that made this event possible. Our volunteers ranged from maintenance staff, department heads, MCC staff, Club members, Arizona residents, my family, and many more. The list is so long that we can't mention everyone.

My weekend of homework.

Finally finished all the homework...and even got a few loads of laundry done. I sure miss the summer hours and three day weekends.

This weekend is going to be beautiful. There's lots to do outside in Kingman.

Enjoy a cool autumn day in Historic Downtown Kingman at the annual Fall Festival & Parade. There will be a parade, Oktoberfest serving brats and beer, entertainment and a variety of arts & crafts vendors. The parade begins at 10:00am on Saturday on Rt 66, Downtown Kingman. The festivities continue till 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am - 3:00pm.

2009 is the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Kingman Powerhouse. Once an oil powered generating station, the Powerhouse was put into disuse with the opening of the Hoover Dam in 1939. The Powerhouse began construction in 1907 and was completed in 1909 with the firing up of the generators on July 31st thus supplying electricity to downtown businesses as well as Chloride, Oatman, Mineral Park, and surrounding mines and during the construction of Hoover Dam. Ironically, she was shut down and became a substation when Hoover Dam went online. The Powerhouse fell into disrepair and was threatened by the wrecking ball. But thanks to the efforts of Toby Orr and the Powerhouse Gang, the Powerhouse was saved. She was given a new look and face lift. In 1997, she opened up as the Powerhouse Visitor Center.

Octoberfest!
While you're enjoying the Fall Festival at Locomotive Park come across the street to the Powerhouse Visitor Center parking lot for Oktoberfest. The fun will include live music, beer, brats and sauerkraut, and you can watch the football games. Must be 21 to enter the beer garden area.

Second Session Classes

The college has moved into Second Session. Friday, October 16th, is the last day to sign up, withdraw, or change classes. Second Session Classes are only eight weeks. Eight week classes hold the same information as the full sixteen week classes, they are just accelerated. Second Session Classes are offered online and on-grounds.

If your Second Session Classes are online, you need to look at them on Angel. On the first day of class, you can access your online course(s) in the MyCampus portal (http://mycampus.mohave.edu/) or you can go directly to Angel (https://angel.mohave.edu/frames.aspx) in your Web browser. You will log in with the Username and Password as described at the bottom of this page. After login, the first page that displays will have a link to your online course(s). Simply click the link for the course you wish to access, and you will be taken to that course site.
